Pop icon Britney Spears has once again left fans in disbelief — this time by deleting her Instagram account without warning. The account, which had more than 42 million followers, now shows an error message reading: “The link may be broken, or the profile may have been removed.”
The “Toxic” and “Lucky” hitmaker’s handle, previously @britneyspears (display name XILA MARIA RIVER RED), suddenly disappeared over the weekend, ending more than a decade of posts that offered fans a direct glimpse into the singer’s personal thoughts and emotions.
It remains unclear whether Spears deleted the account herself or if the action was taken by Instagram’s parent company, Meta. According to Entertainment Weekly, representatives for both parties have yet to comment on the situation.
The shocking deletion comes amid a renewed wave of controversy following the publication of Kevin Federline’s memoir, You Thought You Knew, released in late October. Federline, Spears’ ex-husband and father of her two sons, made a number of disturbing allegations about their relationship — including claims that Spears used drugs, cheated, and behaved erratically around their children.
Britney, who has long used Instagram to express her feelings, lashed out at the memoir’s contents in several emotional posts. “The constant gaslighting from my ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting,” she wrote in one post shared across X (formerly Twitter). “I have always pleaded to have a life with my boys… Sadly, they have witnessed the lack of respect shown by their own father for me.”
In another message, she criticized Federline’s motives, saying, “Those white lies in that book are going straight to the bank — and I’m the only one who gets hurt here.”
Fans had also expressed concern over some of Spears’ recent posts, which showed bruises and bandages on her arms and wrists. She claimed they were caused by a fall “down the stairs at a friend’s house.” In a separate post, Spears alleged that she may have suffered brain damage during her 13-year conservatorship — and even suggested that a recent viral video showing her driving in California featured a “lookalike.”
The pop legend’s disappearance from Instagram has fueled widespread speculation online. Some fans believe she deleted the account voluntarily to “detox” from social media, while others suspect Meta may have intervened due to her recent string of concerning posts.
Meanwhile, Spears’ 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” continues to make waves and is being adapted into a film by Wicked director Jon M. Chu.
For now, Britney’s followers are left wondering if this marks a temporary hiatus — or a permanent goodbye to one of her most personal platforms.
