In one of the UK’s most shocking drug busts, 65-year-old Deborah Mason—dubbed the ‘Gangster Granny’ or ‘Queen Bee’—has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for orchestrating a massive cocaine trafficking network worth nearly £80 million (Rs 924 crore). Mason, who recruited family members into the illegal operation, ran the empire between April and November 2023, moving nearly a tonne of cocaine across cities like Birmingham, Cardiff, and Leicester.

The grandmother flaunted her drug money on social media, boasting of earning £90,000 and was caught fraudulently claiming £50,000 in welfare benefits. Her drug couriers were reportedly paid £1,000 per day, and the operation has been described as “extraordinarily profitable” by British authorities.

Mason’s gang, including young mothers who even brought their children to drug pick-ups, has been collectively sentenced to 106.5 years. Evidence showed she was in regular contact with a higher-level supplier nicknamed “Bugsy.”

The judge heavily criticized Mason, stating she failed in her role as a mother and instead corrupted her own family by involving them in crime. Mason used the profits to buy luxury goods and was planning a cosmetic surgery trip to Turkey.

The case has sparked public outrage and concern over how criminal networks exploit family ties and vulnerable individuals—including mothers—to carry out illegal activities in plain sight.
