Hollywood’s dark side has once again been exposed as David Brian Pearce, a self-proclaimed film producer, has been sentenced to 146 years to life in prison for the fatal drugging of model Christy Giles (24) and her friend Hilda Cabrales-Arzola (26) in 2021. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the shocking sentence on Wednesday, October 29 (US time).

Deputy District Attorney Seth Carmack told jurors that Pearce drugged the victims with fentanyl and GHB to “facilitate sexual assault.” Alongside the double murder conviction, he was also found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault targeting seven other women between 2007 and 2021. Pearce has additionally been ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender.

Who Is David Brian Pearce?

A once self-described “entertainment professional,” Pearce falsely built an image as a Hollywood insider, though he lacked any verified production credits. According to reports, he appeared briefly as an actor in Dawson’s Creek and its spin-off Young Americans, before claiming to study film at UCLA and founding a small company called Granite Rock Films.

Despite his attempts to brand himself as a filmmaker, most who knew him described him as a nightclub promoter, infamous for mingling with reality TV stars and socialites. A nightlife insider told The New York Post that Pearce was a “fake producer” and “total scumbag,” while others called him a “con artist and predator.”

Authorities revealed that Pearce frequently drugged and assaulted women, luring them with the promise of parties and industry connections.

Timeline of the Fentanyl Overdose Murders

On November 13, 2021, Pearce and his associate Brandt Osborn met Giles and Cabrales-Arzola at a warehouse party in Los Angeles. Hours later, the women went to Pearce’s Beverly Hills apartment, where he allegedly gave them GHB and fentanyl, leading to their fatal overdoses.

Cabrales-Arzola tried to book a rideshare shortly after arriving, but they never left. Eleven hours later, Pearce and Osborn dumped the unconscious women outside two separate hospitals. Giles was declared dead on arrival, while Cabrales-Arzola died 11 days later, one day before her 27th birthday.

The trial revealed horrifying testimonies from seven other victims, including Lauren Craven, a 25-year-old police officer who died days before sentencing. Prosecutors labeled Pearce a “serial rapist” and “murderer”, calling his conviction a long-overdue victory for justice.

Statement from the District Attorney’s Office

In a statement, DA Nathan Hochman said:

“David Pearce preyed upon women for years using drugs and deceit. This sentence ensures that he will never again harm another innocent victim.”

Deputy DA Seth Carmack added, “He lived a double life — posing as a producer by day and a predator by night. Justice has finally been served.”
